The Prudential Tower, or locally known as “The Pru,” is the second tallest building in Boston, MA and 77th tallest in the US. It currently houses the highest observation deck in Boston since the closing of the deck in the John Hancock Tower following 9/11. It also houses a restaurant 2 floors higher than its observation deck called “Top of The Hub.” The tower surpassed the old John Hancock building prompting insurance competitor John Hancock to build the John Hancock Tower.
The building famously lights up both on top of the building and in its windows. The windows often spell out words such as “Go Sox” and “Go Bs.” The lights at the top are LED lights and are able to create various colors to match holidays and charitable events. The building shown blue and yellow in support of the Boston Marathon. For World AIDS Day, the building was red.
The building sits on Prudential Center which includes a multitude of shops and restaurants and a hotel. The center also connects to near by Copley Place and has indoor access to the MBTA and Amtrak stations.
